One of the greatest, & for certain one of the most quoted, films in cinema history, Casablanca contains all the indispensable components of a Hollywood blockbuster: adventure, romance, intrigue, suspense, & of course, sinister Nazi bad folks (if you question this last one as an indispensable element, then reference the success of the Indiana Jones films). With a manager (Michael Curtiz) & cast 2nd to none, Casablanca makes a solid subject for thoughtfulness as the best motion picture ever so made. And though I loath clichs, it is true that they just dont make em like this one anymore
Casablanca unfolds in a spot phoned Ricks, a favorite watering hole in Vichey-controlled Morocco on the outskirts of Nazi dominated Europe. An significant trip hub, Casablanca plays host to many colourful characters with any count of varying agendas. Arms dealers, spies, & revolutionaries walk side-by-side through streets untidy with pickpockets. But at Ricks, everybody appears to enjoy themselves. Owner Rick Blaine (Humphrey Bogart) appears subject matter with his life of serving clients & making money, at least till the daytime she walks in, Ilsa Lund (Ingrid Bergman), the cherish of Ricks life.
Less than 2 years earlier, as the Nazis moved into Paris, Rick & Ilsa fell in love. But in the behave of fleeing the Nazi advance, Ilsa sent Rick a note at the train base informing him that she might not go with him. She offered up no explanation. Now, she was looking in his institution with her husband, fugitive & Nazi resistance leader Victor Laszlo.
As the hours pass, & the Nazis desperately search for Laszlo in an try to split off his escape, Rick studies the fact about Ilsa & her cause for leaving. For the moment, Laszlos fate is in his hands. Since his days in Paris, Ricks made a habit of being practical, both in his job life & in his individual life But will Rick use his influence & connections to aid himself or Victor Laszlo? Will his idealism prevail over his hardened pragmatism? The Third Reich is closing in, & Rick must make a decisiveness regarding Ilsa & Laszlo earlier time runs for out
The recipient of far-flung decisive acclaim in the more than six decennia since its release, Casablanca is one of the couple of films deemed as a cinema classical that in reality lives up to the mega-hype surrounding it. The set design, costumes, & direction are completely flawless. The dialogue is superb. Bogart & Bergman are ideal as the lovers torn apart, & Claude Rains is unforgettable as Captain Renault. If you have an aversion to pre-1980 movies or many else exotic cause for missing out on this one, then I extremely foster you to see Casablanca. You wont deplore it.
